Headboard from Pallet Wood ~ Includes Custom Signs

On July 9, 2011 a very sweet couple we know were wed.  They were married in a park-like setting next to a rushing river, a perfect hot July Oregon day!  To help the guests find the wedding setting I painted a few signs to stake on the road.

 

Fast forward three years and a few months later.  The Mr. made a pallet headboard for the Mrs.! How sweet is that?  (And isn't the Little Face adorable?)

The Mr. included a couple of the rustic signs I had made into his design, which you would just know I'd think was brilliant!

From Summer to Christmas?

Life goes on and increases it's speed as it goes!  My last post was August and now I want to mention something about Christmas?  Where'd those months fly off to?

I was looking through some holiday ISSUU (online magazines) issues and came across a Christmas issue for Amy Power's "Inspired Ideas" from four years ago.  It just so happens I have an article published in this one!

Marshfield Vintage Market ~ Coos Bay Oregon ~ 2014

We just finished up the 1st Annual "Marshfield Vintage Market", here in Coos Bay, Oregon! My daughter and I had a blast! We thank our families, friends and even neighbors who helped us.

Here's just a few fun photos for now...

I have a dress form I dolled up for the event. I was inspired in part by the Junk Gypsies.  This was a two day event, and on day one I had a beautiful metal crown to top her off. Our neighbor/fellow vendor, Fox Hollow Cottage, (Shannon) bought the crown on day one:

So for Day Two I brought a red cowgirl hat:

I had a pair of boots at her base, painted pink! Someone bought the boots within the first two hours:

I had various signs set out, I think every last one of them sold!

I tried it and I like it! What is it? Coconut oil!

Jessica (daughter #2) mentioned making some chocolate chip cookies using coconut oil a while back. Honestly, I'm late for the dance, as I'd never heard of coconut oil for cooking.  Then I remembered even a longer-while back Melissa (daughter #1) had mentioned coconut oil for use for... something, but I just didn't remember!

I bought some coconut oil, which in itself was a challenge here in our town. I think I had to go to three store before I found a jar of it.  I originally was looking for "oil", as in canola oil or olive oil. I didn't even know it was a hard oil, as in "Crisco Oil"!  I had even called Jessica from the store when I couldn't find it, and that's when she said it's a solid oil.

Once home I used Jessica's recipe for "Coconut Oil Chocolate Chip Cookies."  Now I'm not like our daughters, who love chocolate chip cookies and/or chocolate chip cookie raw dough, (I do like a good sugar cookies!), but this raw dough was to die for!  Here's the recipe:

The baked cookies were yummy, too.  For some reason the dough reminded me of the chocolate chip cookie "dough" in the ice cream by the same name!

Fast forward a few weeks to a day out in the country picking blueberries.  I only had time to pick about 4 pounds, so bought a box of 15 pounds (the blueberry farm workers had picked them earlier that day).  I "sold" 5 pounds to my friend, then took the rest home to freeze.

Tonight for dinner I decided to make Blueberry Muffins, but use coconut oil for the "soft shortening".  Here's the recipe I used:

BLUEBERRY MUFFINS
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Grease a 6-muffin tin

1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup soft shortening (this is where you use coconut oil!)
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

Mix all ingredients except berries; gently fold in blueberries; fill muffin tin; bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes (tops will be a nice golden color when done); serve with butter!

(Sorry, I don't write out complete recipe instructions, once you've made a muffin-or whatever-you've got the technique!)


I have to say, these were the best blueberry muffins I've ever tasted!  I guess 1/2 cup of sugar will make anything taste good to me, but I think it was the coconut oil! (The main dish tonight was Sweet and Sour Pork over rice, just so you know it wasn't just muffins for dinner!)

I've been busy with various projects: my "big girl job", painting signs for my Etsy orders, and other custom signs orders from locals; and now a big even in our town called "Marshfield Vintage Market".  Here's the poster.

Melissa has a space and I'm her side kick!  I'll bring signs and other projects I've been working on, too many to even begin posting photos at this point.

Perfect Year End Teacher Thank You Gift

I was asked to paint this sign by a couple moms. I suggested having the children write their names and the date on the back.

Both moms reported back to me that the teachers had tears in their eyes when they recieved the signs.
(There were actually three signs given out....)

I designed the signs to look like chalkboards, though they are not chalkboards. The are about 16" by 24".

He has shown you O man LARGE sign

My large sign, "She is clothed..." is the perfect daily reminder that my strength comes from God.  I've painted this sign many times and knew it was perfect for a girl's room.  But what about verse sign for a boy's room. Ah, a buyer had me paint the perfect one, Micah 6:8.

The Bible version I used was NKJ (New King James),  because I like the way they worded the "O man" part. If you purchase this sign let me know if this is the Bible version you want. I can use any version, such as KJV, NKJV, NIV, etc. 

The size is 24 inches by 24 inches. (With the wood trim , it's about 26 inch square.) The color shown is called "Melted Chocolate" (a brown that for some reason shows up darker in the photo than it is). I can paint it in any color.

Bible verse signs are great for boys and girls rooms, they memorize the verse in no time at all!

The following note is from the begging of the "Passion Week" booklet:

Dear Friend,

Thank you for joining me in this personal study for Easter Passion Week. Passion Week is the week from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Sunday. As a Christian, Easter is the basis of my faith; it’s my shout of "Amen & Hallelujah!" to Who I put my trust and faith in.

During Passion Week in the year 2010 I went through a daily personal study of where Jesus was each and every day of the week leading up to His crucifixion. My purpose when I printed out my study notes (in 2011) was to share with our COTB (Calvary on the Bay Church) Bible study ladies the journey I went through , so that they could have a guide to do the same. Now each year I repeat this Passion Week study. That is why this is in YOUR hands now: my desire is for YOU to spend quality time in the Word daily during Passion Week. The journey led me through the final days that Jesus spent on earth before He died on the cross. For me. For you.

Although it seem like there’s a lot in this guide, you’ll find it (hopefully) simple to follow. To use this guide, follow the days of the week in the booklet. Listed on each day are the Bible references as to where Jesus possibly was, and what He was doing, a harmony of the Gospels. If you have time, go through all the suggested Bible passages. If you are limited on time, just read one passage. The second daily page is for your notes, thoughts and prayers. The third daily page is for notes I’ve collected, along with occasional thoughts and written prayers. Writing out prayers was something I had never done before, I found I liked being about to go back and read a prayer, rather than just a prayer list. (Not all prayers were written by me.) I also suggest you journal along with the study. It may be something you’ll want to pull out year after year for Passion Week.

Before you begin each day, spend time in prayer and communion with the Lord. I’ve included a communion cup; you can use any juice and bread/crackers. I take communion daily throughout Passion Week. Ask Him to guide you and to open your eyes and heart to truths you may discover for the first time. Or, perhaps He will open your mind to new applications for stories you’ve previously known. If you seek Him, you will find Him (Deuteronomy 4:29). If you desire to live grow closer to Him this week, He will be there with His hand held out waiting for you (James 4:8) You’ll know it’s His hand reaching for you when you see the nail scars.

I would also like to challenge you, if you have influence on any children (your own children, grandchildren, nieces/nephews, neighbors, etc.) to take Easter beyond what the world offers, such as bunnies and eggs. Talk daily to your children this week, teach them everything you can about what Jesus did.

Establish in your mind and heart that this week is different. This week you will devote time daily to spend in the Bible and with the Lord following the Perfect Lamb before He was sacrificed. Be passionate about it.


May you have a fierce passion for Jesus.

It is well with my soul SIGN

One of our daughters often tells me, "I just keep swimming, keep swimming..."  I always laugh, because I'm on the other end of the phone doing the same thing! Like mother-like daughter! (By the way, our other daughter is exactly like me in so many ways, too! It's funny to have two of me walking around out there....).

I just keep painting, keep painting....... 

I have variety of signs that I do paint, which is what keeps me from being board.  I paint a lot of signs for weddings; I paint a lot of signs for children's rooms; I paint a lot of custom family name signs; and more.  And, for fun I paint whatever I want, and put these signs up for sale on local sales boards, or give away as gifts.

Here's one I had recently painted, then made 2 or 3 more for orders.

One buyer said she remembers sitting at her at the feet of her grandmother, who sat in a rocker and sang the old hymn, "It Is Well With My Soul".  I enjoyed hearing her memories.

I nailed together thin boards to give it a sort of rustic-mini-pallet look.  What I'd like to do now is make more, and use various phrases from well loved hymns, such as "Amazing Grace", or "Be Thou My Vision".     *Be sure to leave a commit with your favorite well-loved hymn, I may use it next!*

Spring, spring, spring!  Hang in there friends, spring.is.on.the.way!

We had a major wind storm pass through last night and this morning, so when it cleared up this afternoon, somewhat, I made a quick run out to the gardens to cut some camellias.  Our camellia tree is pretty large, about 23 years old, and full of bloom right now.  But that wind storm sure knocked off a lot of blooms!  I brought in a bunch and set them in one of my ironstone soup tureens, ah...springs!

She is clothed with strength and dignity LARGE Sign Proverbs 31

The first "She is clothed..." sign I painted was a bit smaller than this one.  My next buyer asked for one sized 24 inches by 24 inches.  Also, she wanted not pink, but a gray-tan color.  My background color is MY fabulous "Sugar Cookie" color.  I LOVE PAINTING ANYTHING WITH THIS COLOR!

 

 

When I added the trim it actually measures almost 26 inches square.

This is a wonderful sign for a girl's room, or as a reminder for women who model their lives after the Proverbs 31 woman!

Proverbs 31 Verse Handpainted Sign

So often I'm asked to paint a sign for friends and family (and sign buyers) of something they've seen online.  It's often hard for me to say yes, as I don't like to copy!  But when it comes to signs I have been wanting to make, say for myself, then I say "yes".  This is one of those signs.  I see people do the "Pottery Barn Copycat" (look for those boards on Pinterest!) and don't you wonder WHO Pottery Barn copycatted in the first place? Anyway, this is my version of a lovely sign someone asked me to paint.  I'm happy to make more, and in addition, I'm happy to put any Bible verse on it!
